The Dodecanese are a group of 15 larger plus 150 smaller Greek islands in the Southeastern Aegean Sea. From the 150 smaller islands, only 26 are inhabited. They all have a rich history, and many of the even smaller islands boast dozens of Byzantine churches and castles. The islands line up like a chain along the coast of Turkey, and therefore, they are a very popular destination because it is very easy to visit Turkey for a day.
If you want to explore the lesser-known, unspoiled destinations, then you should really pay a visit to the islands of Leros or Pserimos, but for a more cosmopolitan vibe, you should visit the islands of Rhodes and Kos. The most famous Dodecanese islands are Kalymnos, Karpathos, Lipsi, Symi, Kos, Rhodes, and Chalki.
