The Halas 71 comes with a rich history:

The yacht was built by the British in 1914 for the Ottoman Empire, but the ship never reached the empire due to World War I. Instead, the British government used the ship Waterwitch at Gallipoli.

It wasn’t until 1923 that it became a true Turkish ship after being used by the British Allied Headquarters. That same year, the ship was named HALAS. For the next 65 years, it served as a passenger ferry on the Bosphorus, carrying thousands of passengers daily.

In 1984, the famous Turkish publishers Haldun and Cigdem Simavi gave the yacht a new life by purchasing it and converting it into a luxury 15-cabin cruise ship. The ship was literally saved from the scrap heap. HALAS became a leading private yacht in Istanbul.

In 2008, the cruise ship changed owners. The famous Turkish Koc family, Mustafa and Caroline, purchased the yacht and underwent a thorough refit. Within two years, HALAS was converted into a more luxurious 12-cabin yacht, available for charter for special events and luxury sailing holidays in Istanbul and Turkey.

Over the years, LAHAS 71 has welcomed VIP guests from around the world, including former US Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton, former French President François Mitterrand, and members of the British Royal Family—Prince Charles, Princess Margaret, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.
